(1) Wet the swab in normal saline.
(2) Measure the distance from the nostril to the base of the ear with a swab and mark it with your finger
(3) Referring to Figure 1, insert the swab into the nostril in a vertical nose (face) direction until the fingers touch the nose, let the swab stay in the nose for 15-30 seconds, and then gently rotate 3 times.
(4) Put the swab into the virus delivery medium, break the swab rod, and place it completely in the tube.
(5) Tighten the cap of the tube, make a mark, and put it in a plastic bag and seal it.
(6) If it is necessary to collect from both nostrils, a swab should be used separately.
(7) Store at 4°C or on ice (short-term storage).
(1) Ask the patient to gargle with normal saline first.
(2) Wet the swab in sterile saline (without penicillin, in case the patient is allergic) (wet swabs can pick up more cells than dry swabs). Do not put the swab into the virus transport medium to wet the swab!
(3) Assisted by the examiner with a tongue depressor, the pharyngeal swab is passed over the base of the tongue to reach the lesions of the pharyngeal isthmus, and smeared several times (refer to Figure 2), avoiding contact with the tongue and oral mucosa when taking it out.
(4) Put the swab into the virus delivery medium, break the swab rod, and place it completely in the tube.
(5) Tighten the cap of the tube, make a mark, and put it in a plastic bag and seal it.
(6) Store at 4°C or on ice (short-term storage).
